A Sign of Old Age: Birth Control Jokes with Parents

One of my family's past times is verbal sparring that aims to sshock or to anger someone. A mix between tough love and a reality check, this kind of sindakan (am not sure if there's a direct English translation) does not really aim to hurt or belittle you: it's just weird family fun for us.

The scene yesterday at my parents':

Paquito: Uy, pumayat ka nga ng konti. (Hey, you did get a bit thin.)
Lulubelle: Thanks to yoga.
Paquito: Alam mo ano pang mas mabilis na pampapayat? (You know what else is a fast weight loss trick?)
Lulubelle: Ano?
Paquito: Tigilan mo birth control pills. (If you stop taking birth control pills.)
Lulubelle: Um, tataba ako pag nabuntis ako. (I'd get fat if I get pregnant.)
Paquito: Di bale, after 9 months papayat ka naman ulit...baka hindi din. (Never mind, after nine months, you'd get thin again...maybe not.)
